Trump Initiates Overhaul of U.S. Intelligence Community
U.S. President Donald Trump plans a significant reduction of the national intelligence workforce under acting director Bill Pulte. Citing the office as excessively large and inefficient, Trump has directed Pulte to begin a shake-up, while not planning to nominate Pulte for a permanent role.
In a significant move, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed to the Wall Street Journal his intentions to streamline the U.S. intelligence community. At the helm of this undertaking is acting director Bill Pulte, tasked with executing the reduction of the workforce within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Trump described the office, which supervises 18 federal intelligence entities, as excessively large. 'I’d like to see it smaller,' Trump stated, stressing the presence of many unnecessary personnel. The remarks underline his desire to reduce and optimize the intelligence community.
Amidst this development, Trump has opted not to consider Pulte, criticized for his lack of national security experience, for a permanent role, following concerns from both Democrats and Republican senators.
