Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a senior Congress figure, has launched a fresh accusation against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), targeting the candidacy of TMC MP Yusuf Pathan. Chowdhury has alleged that the TMC engaged in polarizing political tactics during the West Bengal Assembly elections, aiming to defeat him in the Baharampur constituency.
Chowdhury claimed that Pathan was chosen to challenge him with the sole objective of defeating him by appealing to religious biases. He emphasized that the TMC invested significant resources to gain an edge, with direct involvement from its leader. Chowdhury described these moves as polarizing voters based on religious lines.
Meanwhile, Yusuf Pathan has categorically denied reports that TMC chief Mamata Banerjee requested his resignation to clear the way for her potential candidacy in a bypoll. The controversy expanded with former cricket captain Sourav Ganguly dismissing claims that he was involved in conveying such a message from Banerjee.
