In a dramatic escalation of West Bengal's political tensions, state Minister Agnimitra Paul has accused former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of fostering an environment of corruption during her tenure. Paul's comments came following the arrival of a CID team at Banerjee's residence, an action she hailed as upholding constitutional authority.

Paul alleged that Banerjee had disregarded the law by tolerating criminal activities and corruption, acting as if she were the head of a separate country. She argued that Banerjee should be arrested for this, citing her past criticism of constitutional offices and figures like the Prime Minister and President.

The controversy is compounded by a letter from 20 Trinamool Congress MPs expressing their desire to leave the party and support the NDA. This internal revolt coincides with Banerjee's visit to New Delhi for an opposition bloc meeting, highlighting the deepening factional divide within the TMC.
