Congress MP P Chidambaram has commented on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's completion of 12 years in office, acknowledging the achievement but cautioning against drawing comparisons with former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. As of June 10, Modi has served 4,399 days, exceeding Nehru's previously held record.
Chidambaram, in a post on X, expressed admiration for Modi's tenure but raised concerns over the portrayal of this milestone as a surpassing of Nehru's legacy. He pointed out that Nehru's role in establishing Indian democracy should not be dismissed, questioning the BJP's focus on numerical achievements without historical context.
Chidambaram urged a balanced view, celebrating Modi's 12 years while also honoring Nehru's 17 years at the helm post-independence. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders recently passed a resolution lauding Modi's tenure, emphasizing his government's focus on development and governance. The resolution was supported by key figures, including Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and Union ministers like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh.
