In a significant development, Tushar Kanti Das has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, citing her remarks during an election campaign as inflammatory. Das alleges that Banerjee's words, delivered in March, posed a risk of communal discord between religious communities.
Das, speaking to ANI, expressed that Banerjee, a national leader, was unnecessarily pitting communities against each other for political leverage. He accused her of using divisive rhetoric to consolidate her vote bank amidst fears of a defeat by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), questioning her secular credentials in the process.
The FIR, filed at Kolkata's Hare Street, signals growing tensions within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following their electoral setback. The accusations arrive as the party deals with internal rifts, including resignations from the Rajya Sabha and calls for a separate identity by dissatisfied MPs.
