Internal conflict within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has escalated as rebel Members of Parliament intensify opposition against the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. The disruption follows the party's recent electoral defeat in West Bengal, its stronghold, leading to resignations and a rise in discontent among members.
Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla voiced the underlying causes, pointing to various 'irregularities, malpractices, and misgovernance' that prompted defections. He indicated a shift in allegiance towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), viewed as a beacon for development and effective governance in the region.
The rebellion is marked by 19 Lok Sabha MPs and 58 MLAs staking a claim for a new direction, further intensified by a looming meeting in Delhi. Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra challenged the rebels legally, citing constitutional restraints on forming a separate parliamentary bloc without a complete merger with another party.
