Amidst a growing political storm, Congress leader Shama Mohamed has launched a stinging critique against Trinamool Congress MPs who have broken away to join the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) and expressed their support for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

An indignant Mohamed raised pointed questions about the legitimacy of the breakaway faction. 'Firstly, I'm amused by this so-called Nationalist Citizens Party of India—an outfit I had never heard of until now. Secondly, what is happening to the democratic process in our country?' she exclaimed.

She urged the defecting MPs to resign and contest elections under their new party's banner in West Bengal, questioning their commitment to democratic practices. This dramatic political realignment follows the confirmation by rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar that 20 Lok Sabha MPs have joined NCPI, seeking separate seating in Parliament as they extend support to the NDA.

Simultaneously, the TMC is grappling with a crisis, with 58 MLAs rebelling alongside three Rajya Sabha MPs who have resigned. In a separate issue, Mohamed also criticized the government's silence over Indian sailors’ deaths in recent maritime incidents during a scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.
