Ceasefire on Edge: The Continuing Conflict in Gaza
The conflict in Gaza persists as Israeli strikes killed four Palestinians. Mediators are engaging in ceasefire talks in Cairo to sustain a U.S.-brokered peace plan. Deadlock continues over key issues, including Hamas disarmament and Israeli withdrawals. Despite the October 2025 truce, violence and political disagreements hinder lasting peace.
On Monday, Israeli military actions resulted in the deaths of at least four Palestinians in Gaza, according to health officials. The unrest comes as mediators prepare for more ceasefire talks in Cairo to protect a U.S.-brokered peace plan for the heavily affected Palestinian area.
One airstrike killed a woman in Zawayda, located in central Gaza, while another near the Nuseirat refugee camp claimed another life. A later strike targeted a building rooftop in Gaza City, killing a medic and his son. Health officials reported these incidents. The Israeli military has not yet commented.
The violence coincides with U.S. Peace Envoy Nikolay Mladenov's expected visit to Cairo. Although Hamas and other factions accepted a 15-point plan, differences remain over Hamas disarmament and Israeli withdrawal. The October 2025 truce failed to halt the violence, with Israel maintaining demands for Hamas to disarm and withdraw its influence over Gaza.
