Lukashenko Urges Compromise to End Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stressed the necessity of compromise to end the prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict, suggesting that battlefield victory is unrealistic. While affirming Belarus's non-involvement in the war, he hinted at a possible meeting with U.S. President Trump, amid warming Belarus-Washington relations.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, a staunch ally of Russian Premier Vladimir Putin, has called for compromise to bring an end to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has persisted for more than four years. Lukashenko noted that achieving victory on the battlefield is increasingly unrealistic for both sides, even as Russian forces make incremental advances.
His remarks, made in an interview with Al Arabiya TV and republished by Belarus' Belta news agency, come as ties between Belarus and Washington show signs of improvement. He also indicated openness to a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Lukashenko emphasized that both Russia and Ukraine might face escalation if they don't consider compromise a viable solution. As the conflict continues to exact a high toll on manpower, Lukashenko assured that Belarusian forces would not join the fray, while expressing readiness to defend jointly with Russia if necessary. Despite U.S.-brokered talks stalling, a potential meeting between Lukashenko and Trump looms, indicative of shifting geopolitical dynamics.
