Kicking off a demand for action, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal urged a detailed investigation into an alarming incident of mob violence in West Bengal's Kultali, South 24 Parganas district. The violent altercation involved locals allegedly beating a Keralam man over suspicions of theft, an occurrence Venugopal termed a 'threat to the rule of law.'
Drawing from past instances such as Dadri and Palghar, Venugopal criticized Bharatiya Janata Party-led states as breeding grounds for division and violence. He noted that, under BJP governance, instances of mob justice have surfaced, citing the Kultali case as one of many escalating concerns.
In his reaction to the incident, Venugopal indicated the urgency of addressing the trend where mobs usurp legal authority, calling it a grave threat. He implored the central government and Bengal's Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for a thorough investigation. Venugopal asserted that governmental inaction allows such lawlessness to persist, insisting on stringent consequences for those exploiting mob tactics.
