Ajay Rai to be the Congress candidate from Varanasi and will contest against PM Narendra Modi from the constituency. Earlier Last month, it was widely expected that Priyanka Gandhi may contest from Rae Bareli, though she had quipped "why not Varanasi", triggering the speculation.

Congress after fielding Ajai Rai from Varanasi to take on PM Modi, also ends speculation on Priyanka Gandhi Vadra fighting polls from the UP town.

Varanasi will vote in the last phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 19.
