The Rajasthan Assembly was adjourned for 30 minutes on Friday, following an uproar in the House by BJP MLAs over giving extra time to some legislators to speak. During a debate on demands for grants of irrigation, the BJP MLAs objected on the extra time given to Independent MLA Sanyam Lodha.
Later, some BJP MLAs also stormed the Well of the House. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Gulab Chand Kataria and Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore said when Jitendra Singh was the chairperson, he gave extra time to some MLAs to speak.
Speaker C P Joshi said if there was any variation in time given to any legislator then it would be corrected. He then gave a chance to Kataria to speak. The leader of opposition said a few members were allowed to speak for 10 minutes, while others were given one hour.
Amid din, the speaker had to adjourn the House for 30 minutes. When the proceedings resumed, BJP legislators once again stormed the Well of the House, staged a dharna and started raising slogans, demanding justice from the speaker.
Demands for grants were passed by voice vote in the assembly amid the protest by the BJP. The speaker then adjourned the House till Monday.
