Google Doodle celebrates Ibn Sina’s 1038th Birthday

The renowned philosopher was raised in a very small village Afshona, Bukhara, Samanid Empire (now Uzbekistan).

Avicenna, also known as Ibn Sina was a doctor, scientist, polymath, undoubtedly one of the most influential philosophers of the pre-modern world who was born in the year 980 during the Islamic Golden Age. This Tuesday, Google celebrates the 1038th anniversary of his birth with Google Doodle.

The renowned philosopher was raised in a very small village Afshona, Bukhara, Samanid Empire (now Uzbekistan) with his parents and brothers. He was a self-taught scholar, with great skills for arithmetic.

From a very young age he showed his love for reading and throughout his life, he read countless books by different authors.

At age 16, he studied medicine and years later began to write books related to various fields reaching to have 131 works. "The canon of medicine" was a pioneering study translated into Latin in the twelfth century and which became an influential material in medical specialists in the seventeenth century.

He died in Iran on June 21, 1037.
