The Ministry of Education (Minedu) delivered shelter kits to students and teachers from 91 high schools in the provinces of Antabamba, Aymaraes, and Grau, in the Apurímac region, to help them counter cold temperatures.

Officials of the Minedu arrived in the community of Huacullo, in Antabamba, located on the 4500 meters above sea level, and delivered kits containing blankets, playful toys, socks, gloves, scarves, scarves, and chullos.

These kits were acquired by the internal campaign "I am Volunteer Minedu", to benefit a total of 1,720 students and 157 teachers of initial, primary, secondary and Alternative Basic Education Centers (CEBA) of the three provinces.

The delivery was under the charge of general director of Alternative Basic Education, Intercultural Bilingual and Educational Services in the Rural Area (Digeibira), Luis Hiraoka, who was accompanied by the regional director of Education of Apurimac, Richard Hurtado, and the director of the Local Educational Management Unit (UGEL) Antabamba, Raúl Meneses.

"Frosts cause negative effects on the life, health, and education of the most vulnerable populations. When children get sick, school absenteeism increases, which affects education," said the director of Digeibira.

The official stressed that the delivery of the kits is done personally in each school and in the hands of each of the children, to ensure that the aid is received by the direct beneficiary of the donations.

The educational institutions and CEBAs are located between 3,300 and 4,600 meters above sea level, are considered at very high and high risk, where temperatures of 5 to 16 degrees below zero are recorded, according to the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi).

"I feel very happy for the donations, I want the frost season to pass soon to warm us with the sun and that our animals do not die frozen," said Andy Huachaca Surquilla (12), from the San Juan Bautista de la Salle de Huacullo school, of Antabamba.

In the province of Antabamba garments were delivered in 57 educational institutions and two Alternative Basic Education Centers, belonging to the districts of Oropesa, El Oro, Pachaconas, Juan Espinoza Medrano, Antabamba, Sabaino, and Huaquirca.

Likewise, in 29 schools and two CEBAs in the districts of Cotaruse, Chalhuanca, Sañayca, and Caraybamba, in the province of Aymaraes, while in the province of Grau CEBA Javier Heraud, from the district of Chuquibambilla, was supported.

Also, companies such as Cálidda, the British Institute, Faber Castell and Avianca joined the volunteering with blankets, divers, among other aid items.
