Guatemala's Fuego volcano, one of the most active in Central America, erupted on Friday, but no evacuations were ordered so far, the country's disaster agency Conred said.

David de Leon, Conred spokesman, said an eruption of lava began at 3:50 a.m. Friday local time.

This is the third eruption so far this year of the 3,763-meter (12,346-feet) volcano, located about 19 miles (30 km) south of Guatemala City.

No evacuations had been ordered, but there was a possibility the volcano could spew dangerous pyroclastic flows, he said, referring to fast-moving clouds of hot ash, lava and gas.

In June, pyroclastic flows expelled by Fuego killed at least 190 people.
