The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Zambia has called on government of Zambia to implement the action against the creating of a dam on the Luangwa River.

Luangwa River is one of the four biggest rivers of Zambia. The World Wide Fund for Nature Zambia has also appealed to the government to declare the Luangwa River a Water Resource Protection Area.

Nchimunya Banda, the Communications Officer of WWF Zambia opined that this campaign is a part of the global initiative which is giving all its endeavors to protect and identify the planet's last remaining free-flowing rivers. Luangwa River is not only identified as one of the longest free-flowing water sources in Zambia, it is still one of the biggest untouched and unaltered rivers in Southern Africa.

Hence, according to Nchimunya Banda, the balancing of ecosystem that the river has been providing for thousands of years will be undeniably threatened with the hydropower development and deforestation.
