Heavy Rains Expected in Krishna Basin as Karnataka Braces for Wet Spell

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre predicts moderate to heavy rainfall in the Krishna basin until June 13. The Cauvery basin will also see light to moderate rains until June 11. Rainfall has been significant in Bengaluru and Kolar, while Malnad and coastal regions face a deficit.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall in the Krishna basin until June 13, signaling a wet spell for the region. The weather agency predicts scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rains, alongside isolated heavy downpours during this period.

Due to anticipated heavy rains from June 8 to 11 in the upper Krishna basin, KSNDMC expects an increase in inflow into the region. Meanwhile, the Cauvery basin is likely to experience scattered light to moderate showers until June 11, with a predicted tapering off post this date.

Data from KSNDMC’s telemetric rain gauge locations recorded significant rains in Bengaluru Urban and Kolar on June 5, with Sangareshkoppa in Saundatti taluk, Belagavi district, recording a maximum of 107.5 mm. In contrast, Malnad and coastal areas are witnessing a substantial rainfall deficit of -20% to -59%, raising concerns.
