Southwest Monsoon Arrives Early in Odisha: A Weather Update

The Southwest Monsoon set in over Odisha on Saturday, four days ahead of its schedule, covering parts of Malkangiri district. The IMD forecast thunderstorms and gusty winds in various districts on Sunday, while heat wave conditions are likely in other regions.

The Southwest Monsoon arrived in Odisha ahead of schedule on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reporting its onset four days earlier than expected. The first regions to experience this early monsoon were parts of Malkangiri district.

The IMD also issued a forecast for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph, likely to affect various districts, including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada, on Sunday.

According to the IMD, the monsoon, which hit Kerala on June 5, advanced over several regions before reaching Odisha's Malkangiri. Concurrently, heat wave conditions are anticipated to persist in the districts of Bargarh, Bolangir, and Nuapada. Additionally, hot and humid weather is forecasted for districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and others on Sunday.
