Heavy Rainfall in Marathwada: Lightning Strikes Claim Lives

In Marathwada, 51 administrative circles experienced heavy rainfall, leading to two fatalities due to lightning strikes. Since June 1, the drought-prone region has received significant rain, with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recording the highest downpour. The overall toll from rain-related incidents has increased to 10.

In a significant weather event, 51 administrative circles in Marathwada have been inundated with heavy rainfall, an official stated on Monday. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes over the past couple of days.

The revenue department's report indicated that the historically drought-prone region has accumulated 63.8 mm of rain since June 1, with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar alone receiving 103.1 mm of precipitation.

Chitte Pimpalgaon, part of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, witnessed the highest rainfall at 150.50 mm on June 6.

Among the 51 circles hit by heavy rains, 37 are situated in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, followed by eight in Jalna, four in Beed, and one each in Parbhani and Hingoli, the report highlighted.

Tragically, a man and a 13-year-old boy were killed by lightning strikes in Nanded and Beed, respectively, raising the death toll in rain-related incidents to 10 since the beginning of June.

Marathwada, encompassing the districts of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Dharashiv, Latur, Parbhani, Hingoli, and Nanded, has been grappling with drought, as five major reservoirs in the region had depleted to zero per cent storage.
