Red Alert Issued as Jharkhand Sizzles in Severe Heatwave

Severe heatwave conditions continue in various parts of Jharkhand with Daltonganj recording a maximum temperature of 45.6°C. The weather department has issued a red alert for severe heatwave in certain regions until June 14. All schools in the state will remain closed until June 15 due to extreme heat.

Severe heatwave conditions are continuing unabated in various regions of Jharkhand, with Daltonganj reaching a scorching 45.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

The weather department has issued a red alert for severe heatwave in the northwest and southeast parts of the state until June 14.

'A red alert has been issued for severe heatwave conditions in Garhwa, Palamu, Saraikela-Kharswan, East and West Singhbhum until June 14,' said Abhishek Anand, officer in charge of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre. An Orange alert has been issued for Chatra and Latehar. Several other areas may also experience heatwave-like conditions.

On Wednesday, severe heatwave conditions were reported in Garhwa, Palamu, Saraikela-Kharswan, East Singhbhum and West Singhbhum, while heatwave conditions persisted in Chatra, Latehar, Ranchi, and Ramgarh.

Maximum temperatures reached 45.6 degrees Celsius in Daltonganj—6.4 degrees above normal—and 44 degrees Celsius in Jamshedpur, which was 6.9 degrees above normal. Ranchi, previously known as the summer capital of undivided Bihar, recorded 40.2 degrees Celsius, 4.8 degrees higher than the norm.

Garhwa, Saraikela, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Baharagora, and Latehar all experienced astonishingly high temperatures of 45.3, 44.1, 43.7, 43.1, and 42.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.

In light of these severe heatwave conditions, all schools in Jharkhand will remain closed until June 15, as per an order issued by the School Education and Literacy Department on Tuesday.
