Delhi's Bold Steps to Protect Homeless from Scorching Heatwave

In response to the relentless heatwave in Delhi, the government has directed officials to rescue the homeless from footpaths and parks, and accommodate them in shelter homes. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has been tasked with executing this directive, emphasizing medical assistance and timely reporting.

As Delhi grapples with an unrelenting heatwave, the city government has activated emergency measures to safeguard the homeless. Under the directive of Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, officials are tasked with rescuing individuals from streets and parks, providing them with shelter.

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has received specific orders to conduct these rescues as part of a broader heatwave action plan. The directive mandates that the rescue operations run daily from noon to midnight, ensuring those suffering find refuge in DUSIB-managed facilities. A detailed report of the previous day’s rescues must be submitted by 11 am each day.

Priority is also given to offering immediate medical aid to those affected by the heat, with Centralized Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulances on standby for urgent hospital transfers. Authorities have reiterated the importance of these actions, warning that any laxity will be viewed with utmost seriousness.
