Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Thursday inaugurated a 2.7-kilometre-long cycle track developed by the NDMC in Chanakyapuri, according to Raj Niwas officials. Addressing the needs of local residents, including numerous diplomats and top government officials, the NDMC envisioned a dedicated cycle track along the periphery of Nehru Park.
The planning for this cycle track was assigned to the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi, which prepared a detailed report in line with UTTIPEC guidelines. The project, costing Rs 4.56 crore, resulted in a track that varies in width from two to four metres and includes a 150 mm concrete layer with a two mm cold plastic paint overlay.
The cycle track is illuminated with 176 poles fitted with warm LED lights to enhance the area's aesthetics. Additionally, 90 red sandstone bollards, 228 hazard markers, 227 solar studs, 191 speed breakers, and 115 cycle track signages have been installed. Nehru Park, surrounded by foreign embassies and state bhawans, serves as a residence for several diplomats and government employees who frequent the park during morning and evening hours. The new cycle track aims to provide safety and encourage cycling as a leisure activity.
