TN Govt to Build 1 Lakh Houses Under 'Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam' Scheme

The Tamil Nadu government is set to construct one lakh houses under the 'Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam' scheme, aiming to make the state hut-free. The project will be completed with an investment of Rs 3,500 crore within a year, and targets achieving a hut-free state by 2030.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to construct one lakh houses under the 'Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam' scheme, as part of its ambitious mission to eradicate huts in the state. The announcement was made by Minister for Rural Development I Periyasamy in the Assembly.

With an estimated budget of Rs 3,500 crore, the project aims to build these houses within a year. Minister Periyasamy highlighted that the scheme has been named after the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who originally envisioned a hut-free Tamil Nadu.

Chief Minister M K Stalin is committed to continuing Karunanidhi's legacy by ensuring the state becomes hut-free by 2030, as disclosed during the budget debate by Minister Periyasamy.
