Water Tank Collapse in Krishna Vihar: Over a Dozen Injured

A water tank in Krishna Vihar Colony, developed by Uttar Pradesh Awas Vikas Parishad, collapsed, injuring at least 12 people. Several nearby houses were damaged, and residents, including children, were trapped. Rescue operations are ongoing, and investigations into the construction of the tank, completed in 2021, are set to begin.

A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday evening when a water tank in Krishna Vihar Colony, developed by the Uttar Pradesh Awas Vikas Parishad, collapsed, resulting in serious injuries to at least 12 individuals.

Officials reported that the collapse occurred at around 6.00 pm, burying several nearby houses and trapping residents, including children, under the debris. Initial reports indicated four injuries, but this number has since risen to a dozen.

Rapid Response Team in-charge Dr. Bhudev Prasad revealed that the number of injured might still increase as rescue operations continue. The Mathura District Magistrate, Shailendra Kumar Singh, confirmed that all the injured have been sent to the district hospital for treatment and that multiple agencies, including fire services, police, revenue teams, the municipal corporation, and the health department, are involved in the rescue efforts.

Sri Singh emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, noting that the water tank, with a capacity of 2.5 lakh liters and a construction cost of Rs 6 crore, was completed only in 2021. The premature collapse raises significant concerns that will be meticulously examined.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have also been mobilized to assist with the rescue work, as efforts to safely extricate any remaining victims continue.
