Bailey Bridge Collapse in Imphal: Driver Missing Amid Rescue Efforts

One person went missing after a Bailey bridge collapsed in Imphal West's Mutum Phibou area. A truck carrying firewood was crossing the bridge over the Imphal river when the incident occurred. Three individuals were rescued, but the driver remains missing. An inquiry and bridge repair are underway.

One individual remains missing after a Bailey bridge collapsed in Imphal West's Mutum Phibou locality, authorities reported on Monday. The incident transpired on Sunday when a firewood-laden truck was navigating over the Imphal river bridge.

According to official accounts, the truck plunged into the river, from which local residents managed to rescue three occupants. However, the driver's whereabouts remain unknown. The missing driver has been identified as 45-year-old Md Borajao.

The search operation for the driver is currently ongoing, as confirmed by officials. Following a site inspection, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Y Khemchand stated that an inquiry report has been requested within three days, and repairs to the bridge are to be prioritized, attributing the mishap to a technical defect.
