Rescue Efforts Continue After Earth Tremor Strikes Polish Mine

Rescue efforts are ongoing after an earth tremor hit the Rydultowy mine in southern Poland, bringing one more miner to safety while another remains trapped underground, according to the mine-owner, PGG.

Earlier, 76 miners were successfully brought to the surface, with 17 requiring hospitalization, one of them with serious injuries, PGG CEO Leszek Pietraszek revealed in a televised afternoon news conference. A representative later confirmed one miner was rescued while another remains underground.

PGG spokesperson Aleksandra Wysocka-Siembiga reported that the tremor occurred around 0600 GMT at a depth of 1,200 meters, roughly 3,960 feet, below the ground.
