Himachal Pradesh Braces for Heavy Rain as Met Issues 'Yellow Warning'

A 'yellow warning' has been issued by the Met office in Himachal Pradesh predicting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning on specific dates. The state has already seen road closures and significant rainfall, with some areas experiencing up to 12.6 mm of rain. Rainfall is also slightly below the seasonal average.

As light rain persists across Himachal Pradesh, the local Met office on Friday issued a 'yellow warning' for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning expected on July 13, 14, 17, and 18.

State emergency officials reported that ten roads are currently closed due to the recent downpours, including four in Shimla, three in Mandi, and three in Kangra district. Specific areas have faced significant precipitation, with Dharamshala receiving 12.6 mm, Palampur 6.2 mm, Shimla 3.5 mm, Dalhousie 3 mm, Kangra 2.3 mm, and Chamba and Sarahan 2 mm each.

From July 1 to July 12, Himachal Pradesh has experienced 81.8 mm of rainfall, which is 4% below the normal level of 85.6 mm for this period, as per the Met office data.
