Union Minister Pushes for Fast-Tracking Key Projects at RGCB Campus-II

Union Minister Suresh Gopi has pledged to fast-track the development of RGCB's ambitious Campus-II projects, following an extensive visit and interaction with institute scientists. Significant projects include a hospital for cancer patients needing palliative care. The minister highlighted RGCB's contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Union Minister of State for Tourism, Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi on Friday stated he would urge the Centre to expedite the ambitious projects of Campus-II of the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) in Akkulam.

After an extensive visit and discussions with the institute’s director and senior scientists, Gopi announced his intent to push for the fast-tracking of various projects, including the establishment of a referral hospital for cancer patients in need of palliative care. He emphasized the advanced scientific research conducted by the institute and its vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gopi praised RGCB for its service during the pandemic, particularly as a leading swab testing facility, benefiting society significantly. During his visit, he also advocated for a greener campus by planting a flower-tree named 'Kasturba' and assured more support for tree planting initiatives. RGCB Campus-II focuses on research in vaccines, immunotherapeutics, diagnostics, biotechnology, and tropical diseases.
