The Uttar Pradesh government has officially notified the formation of the State Capital Region (SCR), akin to the National Capital Region (NCR), aimed at fostering balanced development in the state.
Governor Anandiben Patel approved establishing the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region Development Authority (UP-SCRDA), following which the Housing and Urban Planning Department issued the formal notification.
The newly formed SCR encompasses Lucknow and adjoining districts including Hardoi, Sitapur, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Barabanki, spanning a total area of 27,826 square kilometers. The UP-SCRDA is set to oversee development projects and resource management within this area, chaired by the Chief Minister and vice-chaired by the Chief Secretary of the state.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who initiated this project in September 2022, emphasized the need for structured development to address population pressure and unplanned growth in surrounding districts.
