IIT-Guwahati to Spearhead Study on Dibrugarh's Artificial Flood Crisis

IIT-Guwahati will investigate the causes of artificial flooding in Dibrugarh, Assam. Based on their findings, a master plan will be developed to address the issue. Union Minister Sonowal emphasized the need for civic bodies to tackle encroachment and other issues to find a sustainable solution.

IIT-Guwahati will be enlisted to study the cause of artificial floods in Assam’s Dibrugarh city. Based on its findings, a master plan will be prepared to solve the problem.

The minister stressed the need for civic bodies to address issues such as encroachment to help find a permanent solution for waterlogging. The city witnessed massive artificial floods this year, affecting several areas. The minister visited Naliapool to inspect the drainage system and called upon local authorities to pool resources to find a pragmatic solution.

The minister for ports, shipping, and waterways said IIT-Guwahati will study the causes of artificial flooding, and corrective measures will be taken based on their report. Sonowal also called Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding the matter and emphasized finding an economically, ecologically, and environmentally sustainable solution.

He urged civic bodies to act against violators and instructed officials to swiftly bring relief. Expert opinions and suggestions will be incorporated into the permanent solution plan.
