On Tuesday, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the newly constructed 'Nirmal Awas' colony, designed for leprosy-affected individuals in Ranchi's Mudma locality.
The colony features 256 flats, and the CM handed over keys to 10 beneficiaries as a symbolic gesture. 'The government is committed to extending the benefits of its schemes to needy people,' Soren stated, adding, 'We are constructing more such colonies in different districts.'
Initially named 'Kusthashram', the project was renamed 'Nirmal Awas' by Soren for a more respectful nomenclature. The colony, built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMYA), includes seven G+1 blocks, spanning 5.5 acres, at a total cost of Rs 35 crore. Each flat, costing around Rs 13 lakh, is provided free to beneficiaries. The state government fully covered these costs considering the financial burden on the leprosy-affected community.
The colony is equipped with modern amenities including internal roads, solar street lights, and a health and wellness center. Additional colonies are also being developed in Jamshedpur, Deoghar, and Mihijam.
