NGT Issues Notice Over AIIMS Garbage Dumping Allegation

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a notice to the Centre and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi regarding a plea about garbage dumping near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The tribunal highlighted that the waste poses a significant air pollution threat and has scheduled further proceedings for October 14.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has served notice to the Centre and Municipal Corporation of Delhi in response to a petition alleging the illegal dumping of garbage near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The petition claims that an open dump on a 30-metre stretch opposite gate number 6 of AIIMS is a significant source of air pollution. The tribunal's bench, led by Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, underscored that the applicant’s grievance pertains to substantial environmental non-compliance.

The bench, which also includes judicial member Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi and expert member A Senthil Vel, noted the petitioner’s allegation that authorities have neglected to address the issue, despite multiple complaints. The tribunal has set the next hearing date for October 14 to discuss further proceedings.
