Tragedy Strikes: Two Brothers Killed by Wild Elephant in Chhattisgarh

In a tragic incident early Saturday morning, two brothers named Kokde (45) and Padva (43) were trampled to death by a wild elephant in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district. The event took place around 3 am in Kersai village within the Tapkara forest range.
According to officials, one of the victims woke up upon sensing the elephant's presence and stepped outside, only to be attacked and killed. His brother met a similar fate while trying to rescue him.
The forest and police departments were notified and arrived at the scene later in the morning. Immediate financial aid of Rs 25,000 has been provided to the victims' families, with further compensation pending.
This tragic event is part of a larger pattern of human-elephant conflicts that have plagued northern Chhattisgarh for the past decade. The region has seen significant fatalities, with 270 people killed by elephants in the last three years.
