Kashmir Ablaze: Record-Breaking Heat Wave Grips Valley

Kashmir experiences an intense heat wave, with several areas recording their highest July temperatures in 25 years. Srinagar hit 36.2°C, the hottest July day since 1999. Qazigund and Kokernag also saw record highs. Rain is expected in the next 24 hours, possibly bringing relief.

Kashmir has been suffering from an intense heat wave, with several places in the valley recording their highest July temperatures in 25 years on Sunday.

According to the meteorological office, Srinagar city recorded a high of 36.2 degrees Celsius, its hottest July day since July 9, 1999, when the temperature reached 37°C.

The hottest July day in Srinagar was recorded on July 10, 1946, at 38.3°C.

Qazigund and Kokernag towns in south Kashmir also recorded their highest July temperatures on Sunday.

Qazigund reached 35.6°C, surpassing the previous high of 34.5°C recorded on July 11, 1988.

Kokernag experienced a high of 34.1°C, against the earlier record of 33.3°C noted on July 3 this year. The town hit 33°C only once before, on July 8, 1993.

The meteorological office forecasts rain at isolated places in the Kashmir valley over the next 24 hours, which is expected to bring down the temperature.
