A group of Kanwariyas got stranded in a difficult terrain in the rain-hit Tehri district while returning from Gangotri, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reported on Monday. Twenty one Kanwariyas lost their way late on Sunday night and got stranded at Jhala, approximately 3 km from Budhakedar, SDRF Sub-Inspector Dipak Joshi confirmed.
Despite the darkness and heavy rain that caused road damage, SDRF personnel, under the leadership of Joshi, managed to carry out a successful rescue operation. 'The rescue operation was difficult as it was dark and raining, and the roads were damaged,' Joshi stated.
Following their rescue, the Kanwariyas were taken to the Budhakedar bus stand, where arrangements were made for their food and lodging. Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the area over the past few days have exacerbated the situation, damaging multiple roads.
