Kerala’s Plan for Safer and Cleaner Tourist Destinations

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan convened a high-level meeting to discuss improving safety and amenities at tourist sites. Measures include licensing homestays, cleanliness campaigns, safety protocols for boats, and anti-social deterrents. Essential departments and officials discussed strategies to boost tourism while ensuring tourist safety and satisfaction.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a high-level meeting on Monday to improve the safety and amenities at the state’s tourist centres. Key directives included ensuring clean and secure environments with proper amenities for tourists.

Vijayan emphasized the need for obtaining licenses for homestays from local authorities and GST registration. He also highlighted the importance of clean toilets, expanding the Clean Destination campaign, and employing Haritha Karma Sena for waste management.

Further measures include enforcing safety standards for boats, having lifeguards on duty, ensuring police presence, preventing public alcohol consumption, and enhancing CCTV surveillance. Tourist guides and employees must have police clearance certificates, adding to the overall security at tourist spots.
