Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Thursday declared his intent to request a Rs 5,200 crore grant for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) from Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Mayor Shelly Oberoi, Bharadwaj emphasized the necessity of central grants to improve urban infrastructure such as roads and drainage systems. He noted that other cities in states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh receive similar grants from the Centre.
The minister explained that based on the urban population statistics and past grants to other cities, Delhi's MCD deserves this financial support. Bharadwaj also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the grant is provided for much-needed infrastructural development.
