In response to a tragic incident at an IAS coaching center in Rajinder Nagar, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has mandated a citywide survey of buildings featuring basements, exposed wires, and antiquated barrels linked to the drainage system.
Urgent preventive actions have been announced, including the requirement for separate entry and exit points in basements, public disclosure of building plans, and the removal of obstructions from drains and footpaths. All zonal deputy commissioners are directed to enforce these measures immediately to prevent future misuse and related issues.
Following a flash flood that resulted in the deaths of three students on July 27, 2024, the MCD is taking rigorous steps to ensure public safety and operational efficiency in drainage and sewer systems. The civic body has pledged to work closely with power companies and utilize advanced machinery to mitigate risks.
