Heavy rainfall in the Jammu region resulted in the pulling out of a 60-year-old man's body from a river, along with damage to homes and roads, officials reported on Thursday.
While the rain provided relief from the sweltering heat, it also triggered landslides on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, disrupting traffic and submerging low-lying areas. The State Disaster Response Force retrieved the body from the swollen Tawi river near Gujjar Nagar, though the man's identity and cause of death remain unknown.
Two homes collapsed and a portion of the road was washed away in the Bhatindi locality, but no casualties were reported. The authorities have issued a warning for the residents to stay away from water bodies and slide-prone areas.
