Rescue operations intensified on Friday as authorities scrambled to locate over 45 people missing due to flash floods triggered by cloudbursts in three districts of Himachal Pradesh. Overnight, 29 people stranded at a state power project were safely evacuated, according to officials.

The cloudbursts, occurring in areas like Nirmand, Sainj, Malana, Padhar, and Rampur, have led to the deaths of five people with over 45 still missing. Additionally, 33 individuals were trapped in the Malana II power project in Kullu district. Deputy Commissioner Kullu, Torul S Raveesh, confirmed the rescue of 29 individuals.

Efforts by the NDRF and home guards have been crucial, rescuing many despite damaged infrastructure. Relatives of the missing are camping on-site, while drones and various agencies are aiding in the search. Maximum damage was noted in Shimla's Rampur subdivision, resulting in two more fatalities and 30 missing people.

Witnesses recount sudden flooding, with houses, shops, and bridges destroyed. Since the monsoon began on June 27, rainfall-related incidents have resulted in 73 deaths and financial losses amounting to Rs 649 crore.
