Flash floods and landslides due to cloudbursts and heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have resulted in the closure of 114 roads, severely disrupting transportation across the region. The local weather department has issued a warning that heavy showers are expected to last until August 7.
According to the state emergency operation center, the shuttered roads include 36 in Mandi, 34 in Kullu, 27 in Shimla, eight in Lahaul and Spiti, seven in Kangra, and two in Kinnaur district. The Himachal Roads Transport Corporation has suspended bus services on 82 routes.
Moderate to heavy showers have continued to lash parts of the state. The local weather office has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains till August 7. Rain-related incidents have claimed 77 lives between June 27 and August 1, causing losses amounting to Rs 655 crore. Flash floods triggered by cloudbursts in various regions on July 31 resulted in eight deaths, and a search operation for 45 missing persons has resumed with the assistance of 410 rescuers.
