In a massive rescue operation, more than 1,400 individuals stranded on the rain-ravaged trek route to Kedarnath have been safely evacuated as efforts intensified on the fifth day of operations.
With clearer weather in the Kedar Valley, air rescues gained momentum. The Indian Air Force's Chinook and MI17 helicopters augmented the rescue missions previously reliant on smaller helicopters, officials confirmed.
Since the initiation of rescue efforts last Thursday, over 11,775 people have been relocated to safer areas. Army personnel are constructing a footbridge on the Sonprayag-Gaurikund road and have deployed sniffer dogs, which helped retrieve a body between Gaurikund and the Kedarnath trek route. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the efforts, attributing the cooperation to the 'Devbhoomi's culture'.
