External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday handed over to the Maldives a massive $110 million water and sanitation project funded by India, covering 28 islands and benefiting seven per cent of the country's population.
During his three-day official visit, Jaishankar virtually inaugurated the projects from President Mohammad Muizzu's office. The event saw grateful appreciation from Maldives' leaders, including Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib.
Commissioned under the Indian Line of Credit Facility by the Exim Bank of India, the projects mark the largest climate adaptation initiative in the Maldives with international collaboration, significantly boosting local economies and contributing to sustainable development goals.
