Environmentalists in Madhya Pradesh are raising concerns over the construction of bird towers in Ujjain, labeling the initiative as 'unnatural and impractical.'
The Nature Volunteers (TNV) society, through a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, highlighted violations against a 2021 state government order, noting that these towers are primarily occupied by harmful rock pigeons, colloquially known as 'flying rats.'
Wildlife expert Suhas Kumar added that these pigeons carry dangerous bacteria that can severely damage human lungs. Despite some towers being built by private parties, Ujjain collector Neeraj Kumar Singh clarified that the government has no such plans for these constructions.
