A heavy downpour in Jaipur on Wednesday evening resulted in severe waterlogging and traffic snarls, causing significant disruption. Most parts of Rajasthan experienced light to moderate rain throughout the day, officials confirmed.
The state has been reeling from torrential rain since Sunday, leading to 22 casualties. Heavy rainfall persisted in certain regions on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rain is expected to taper off in eastern Rajasthan after Saturday, according to meteorologists. In Jaipur, the rainfall submerged several roads, leading to congestion and additional hardships for commuters. Areas like Sahakar Marg, Tonk Phatak, and JLN Road faced severe traffic congestion as vehicles struggled through rainwater, many breaking down and causing further chaos.
Power outages were reported in various locales due to waterlogging, with Mansarovar Extension, Durgapura, and Pratap Nagar among the affected areas. Railway tracks at Jaipur Junction and Gandhi Nagar Station also saw flooding. Other regions in Rajasthan recorded varying rainfall levels, with the maximum of 90 mm noted in Mandawar and Bhinay.
Radheshyam Sharma, in charge at the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, forecasts more heavy rainfall in parts of Bharatpur, Jaipur, Ajmer, and Kota divisions on August 14 and 15. A reduction in rain activity in eastern Rajasthan is anticipated after August 17, while western regions like Bikaner and Jodhpur may see heavy rains and thunderstorms in the coming days.
