Firefighters Battle to Contain Wildfires Across Turkey

Firefighters are striving to control wildfires in five Turkish provinces. A blaze in Izmir caused by picnickers has eased somewhat. Sixteen homes and 30 workplaces are impacted, with 78 people affected. The northern and western regions remain at high risk due to extreme weather conditions.

Firefighters were battling to contain wildfires in five Turkish provinces on Saturday, according to the Forestry Minister. A blaze in Izmir that erupted on Thursday had somewhat abated, posing no current threat to residential areas.

Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli disclosed that the Izmir fire, which began due to a picnic, was under control, although it had caused considerable damage and forced evacuations. Strong winds had spread the fire close to homes and businesses, but the situation had been stabilized.

Efforts to combat wildfires in the provinces of Aydin, Manisa, Bolu, and Karabuk were also ongoing. Officials warned of a high wildfire risk in 12 provinces for the next 10 days, attributing it to high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds exacerbated by climate change.
