Tragic Yacht Sinking Off Sicily Leaves One Dead and Six Missing
A deadly storm sank the luxury yacht 'Bayesian' off Sicily, resulting in one death and six missing, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his daughter. The boat was carrying 22 people and faced a ferocious storm. Rescuers continue to look for the missing as investigations commence.
Early Monday, a violent storm claimed the 'Bayesian,' a luxury yacht, off the coast of Sicily, resulting in one fatality and six unaccounted for, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his daughter. The storm hit unexpectedly as the 56-meter sailboat was anchored near Porticello, with 22 people on board.
Italian coast guards reported that 15 people, including Lynch's wife Angela Bacares and a one-year-old girl, managed to escape before the yacht disappeared beneath the waves. Eyewitnesses recounted the boat's swift sinking just before dawn. The yacht's onboard chef has been identified as the deceased, while the missing individuals include British, American, and Canadian nationals.
As divers inspect the wreckage resting at a depth of 49 meters, Italian prosecutors have launched an investigation. Experts suggest that recent scorching temperatures have elevated the Mediterranean's sea surface temperature, contributing to more violent weather conditions. Lynch, known for his significant contributions to the tech industry, remains missing.
