WHO Accelerates Mpox Vaccine Deployment in Congo Following Outbreak
The WHO is expediting the delivery of mpox vaccines to the Democratic Republic of Congo to combat a new virus strain. With 230,000 doses ready for dispatch, the initiative aims to curb the outbreak quickly. The vaccines were donated by the European Commission and Bavarian Nordic.
The World Health Organization has announced the imminent arrival of mpox vaccines in the Democratic Republic of Congo to address a new virus strain.
WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus revealed that the first batch of 230,000 doses is set to be delivered in the next few days. These vaccines were donated by the European Commission and Bavarian Nordic.
The WHO has permitted partners to purchase mpox vaccines even before official approval, aiming to expedite distribution and control the outbreak. Emergency licenses for the vaccines are expected within two weeks.
