Andhra Pradesh Struggles to Contain Budameru Flood Breaches

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, announced that two breaches in Budameru have been sealed, with efforts continuing to close a third. Heavy rainfall increased water levels, causing significant flooding. Relief efforts include distributing candles and matchboxes and deploying thousands of sanitation workers to manage waste.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, confirmed on Friday that two breaches in Budameru rivulet causing severe floods have been sealed, and efforts are ongoing to close a third breach.

Naidu expressed confidence that the third breach could be sealed later tonight or by Saturday morning. Addressing a press conference at the NTR district collectorate, he mentioned that 50 percent of the floodwater inflow emanated from this breach. Enhanced rainfall on Thursday led to an influx of 9,000 cusecs of water, raising water levels in the flooded areas.

However, with no rainfall on Friday, inflows reduced to 3,500 cusecs, and Army teams are working diligently to manage the situation. Naidu emphasized that the government is striving to ensure relief reaches the affected areas. To support flood-hit residents, 74,000 candles and 50,000 match boxes have been distributed, and 7,100 sanitation workers have removed 12,046 MT of solid waste.
