A partially decomposed carcass of a sub-adult tiger was discovered in Nawegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) in Maharashtra's Gondia district on Monday, according to forest department officials. This discovery comes a day after another big cat was found dead nearby.

The tiger, estimated to be between 20 to 22 months old, had multiple injury marks on its neck, shoulder, and abdomen, indicating likely infighting as the cause of death, officials stated.

The carcass, believed to be a cub of a tiger named T4, was found during a morning patrol in compartment No. 99 of the south-east Nagzira area of NNTR. The location is just 3 to 4 kilometers from where another tiger, T9, was found dead on Sunday.

Officials, after completing necessary formalities per National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) guidelines, cremated the carcass. Honorary Wildlife Warden Sawan Bahekar suggested the deaths might involve a dominant male tiger known as 'Pangdi Tiger'.

NNTR, designated as the 46th tiger reserve in India in 2013, spans Gondia and Bhandara districts in Maharashtra and is a vital habitat for tigers and other species.
